In honour of International Childfree Day today (August 1), I thought I would share my childfree story.
Today I learned that Pope Francis thinks I’m selfish. And although I don’t really care about his opinion, it really got my wheels turning about why people are so uncomfortable with the idea of people choosing to live childfree.
why aren’t we encouraged to carefully, mindfully and thoughtfully curate our lives? To make choices that will allow us to treasure what we have. To mindfully select the things that will and will not be part of our lives.
There is so much misunderstanding between the childfree world and the non-childfree world, so I thought I’d answer some questions to hopefully clarify some things and narrow that gap between worlds.
How many of the pressures and stresses and insecurities that we feel are coming from ideas we’ve created and pressures that we have placed on ourselves?
Sometimes the “sister vessel” feels so close, like it’s pulled up alongside my own vessel and I can glimpse everything. And it’s beautiful.
Parenthood is not the end-all-be-all. Parenthood is not the ultimate goal that ultimately defines a successful adult, or a successful life.
